How can I know if it's a 350 or a 305?
My car has 2 vins on it. One on the RPO sticker and the other one is on the door and the window. There was a 5.7 Tuned Port Injection badge on the back, but that is easy to put on. One vin says 5.0 one says 5.7 both are from 87s. The engine could have been swapped or the vin could have been changed or it could have been in an accident and a few things could have been changed, I dunno. I just want to know for sure. Any way i can find out without taking half the engine apart?

The only other way beside the casting number method that MR Leigh provided is to pull a head and measure the bore.

I know about measuring the bore, and I was hoping there was something else, cause that number is hard to see.

You can see if there are any numbers on the side of the block the flat part. Sometimes there are the last three digits or a engine size cast there. I found the 201 on mine which = 14010201...305...80-85...2

Look on the right side of the block...there will be a cast #
it will be...627 for a 305.....638 for a 350 it's right above the knock sensor in front of the starter (it's upside down).

2 simple ways, if you look at the block behind the driver's side cylinder head, the block will have a casting of either 5.0 or 5.7 liter. It is very hard to see, and usually covered with wiring harnesses, etc.
The other way is to look for a oil filter mount heat exchanger, that runs coolant from the heater hoses under the front of the oil pan to a round adapter between the oil filter and the block. All 5.7 f bodys came with these, the 5.0 s didn't.
