Oil Pump going?

Can anyone tell me if there's clicking sound the oil pump makes before it goes? I have this clikcing sound that used to happen when i gunned it, but now its pretty much constant getting faster as i accelerate.

Oil pressure is a better indicator of an oil pump going bad. If oil pressure is still where it should be then i would look elsewhere.

definately not an exhaust leak.....this noise has me stumped......gauge reads fine, other then every once in awhile it jumps like it has a bad ground or something........the clicking sound more like when the valves haven't been adjusted but its not that.

Oil pumps don't "go bad". And they don't "click". In all my years, I have never seen an oil pump fail, for any reason other than the stupid plastic sleeve that holds the drive rod on coming to pieces (total instant complete loss of oil pressure), or contamination with trash.

If the gauge reads OK, the pressure is probably OK... at least, if the gauge reading hasn't changed. Factory gauges are notoriously inaccurate. But if their indication behavior hasn't changed any, i.e. if it's the same as it's always been, then that's a fair sign that ..... nothing has changed. Now if the reading sudddenly or gradually falls off or increases, then there may be a problem either with the gauge or the engine.

A "clicking" sound could be an exhaust leak, a valve train problem, or a cracked flex plate.
