I have an 82-305, Z-28 that I have made mods to, and I have a couple of suggestions.

1) Exhaust system is very restictive. I put on Edelbrock 50 state legal headers, (I live in California), a 3" Cat and a cat back 3" exhaust system for about $1000.

2) Cam is very mild. A cam change will help a lot but is quite a bit of work. A Comp cams K-Kit cost me about $300.

3) Port and match heads. 305 heads don't flow very well, but you can improve them. I did mine myself, again a lot of work, but cheap if you do it yourself.

when i had my 82 i just advanced the timming 13 degrees, it's a good gain you can feel at the accelerator and it's free.

Hmmm just a few more HP?
Add a good cam something with 212-224@.50 duration. That sould give it about 40 more hp head wont do much unless you add a cam to match but just the cam will do more for performance than heads alone.

if your looking for something simple, check the edelbrock stuff. they make a cam and intake just for that engine. in fact i believe the dyno numbers are on their web site.
