Please Help Me!!!!!!
OK i just got this new starter from NAPA and i think its defective. It worked fine for about a week then today it started grinding away... it still starts the car but i dont want to because i dont want to ruin my new flexplate. Anyways you think something internal in the starter is bad? Any comments will be appreciated

i had the starter go out on my 95 ford ranger. I got a replacement from napa and it was defective, i took it back and got a new one, it also was defective, took it back and got another and it was defective, took it back and made them give me the best starter they had (which was a borg warner) for no additional cost and i haven't had any problems with it in about 3 years. this is a no b/s story. 3 defective starters in a row from napa. I love napa but there cheaper starters suck!

Is it NEW new or just reman'd new?

I'll second Jay's post and make sure the bolts are still tight.

My guess, and it's just that, is that he got the right one if it worked fine for a week before it crapped out; I would think that if the tooth count wasn't correct it would've had problems from day one...or at least had sporadic problems before grinding.

And you're right, cars aren't logical. They are big, heavy, money robbing, time wasting, energy spending, significant other-maker-mad-at-you, metallic beasts of burden.

While we're speaking of money-robbing cars, I wonder if the original poster got the starter issue fixed. Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Did you use the shims that should have come in the box with the starter? you might want to experiment with those........
