Unexplained skipping

I've got an 86 camarothat I don't drive much anymore and am going to sell. The car has a small skip in it. I've changed wires, plugs, distrubutor pickup, cap button, adjusted valves, and even done a compression test. It is not controled by a computer or any of the stock ignition system. It has a carter carb, MSD igniton, and a standard vacuum advance distributor. selling car because I finally have a 68 to restore and the car gets me to many tickets. I will get another one one day. If you have any ideas of what is causing this skip please help, no matter how wild the idea.

Have you checked the timing chain to make sure it isnt sagging or missing a tooth on the gears? Probably isnt it, but you said you wanted all ideas.

I had an exhaust lobe wear down on my previous cam... not completely but as time went on the idle/performance sucked worse and worse as it wore down more.

Thanks for the idea. Timing chain is new and so is the cam. Changed both at the same time. When I took my heads off and got rid of the lt4 hot cam. Thank though.

Dh,

That TSB was for induction interference from the coil wire in the primary ignition wiring. Since his '84 should have an older style HEI distributor (with coil in cap) the TSB doesn't apply - but good of you to bring it up.

Grover,

I doubt that the car is getting you any tickets. It may draw attention, but the car doesn't drive itself....

Have you changed teh cap and rotor? At what RPM does the miss occur? If it's at idle, I had a similar problem with idle circuit balance problems on the old ThermoQuads. You have to be very careful to align the top with the carb body, since some of the pickup tubes and bleeds can bend toward the edges of the fuel passages, effectively closing some of the bleed holes in the tubes. I saw soem brand new Carters that were assembled that way from the factory. No matter how much you try to balance teh mixture at idle, the intermediate and transfer circuits always starve for fuel when that occurs.

Okay, Vader The miss is most noticable at cruising speeds or when the car is under high load conditions. At idle it seems fairly normal, except when car is cold. That is just the cam and no choke connected. The car does have a carter carb. The ignition is back to original now and yes I changed the rotor and cap (I would of asked too).

The car didn't really get me in the trouble. It was my need for speed. Although, the trickflow heads and LT4 hot cam, along with some other mods didn't help. I drive a 98 Dodge Ram now. Much slower.
