Are 24# SVO Injectors too big for my Set up? Running Rich
I got my engine back up and running and I'm running rich and trying to figure out why. It's a 350 TPI in my 87 Trans Am 5-spd. I'm wondering if the injectors are too big? This is the second time it's been rebuilt the first time I was told that I was getting much fuel and it washed the rings out and never gave them a chance to seat. (Had less than 8,000 miles on it and kept burning oil) I don't want this to happen again. I had the injectors tested here in town to see if they were leaking down and was told they were good. I've driven less than 20 miles in the car since it's been back up and running but when I rev it up it blows out black smoke I also pulled the #1 and #2 plugs the #1 was black and wet strong fuel smell, on the #2 it was not as black and did not seem wet like the #1. I have a AFPR set at 42 psi should I bring it down with the SVO injectors? Right now I am running a 305 TPI Hypertech chip I am getting a custom one made up but I was thinking I would be running lean since the chip was for a 305 and 19# injectors. I've set the TPS to .54 at idle and at WOT it's at 4.50. My setup is below. Anyone have any ideas for me? Could it be the 305 chip causing it to run rich? I'm afraid to drive it cause I don't want it to wash out the rings again. It's also not setting any codes.

OK the AFPR was set at 46 psi I thought it was at 42 so I set it at 42 PSI with hose disconnected. As I was reving up the engine (with hose connected)I noticed that the fuel pressure would go down when reved up. It's at about 37 PSI with hose connected and when it's reved up it gose to 30 PSI is this normal? I thought it would go up not down. Also after I shut it off the pressure went from about 37 psi and increased to 40 psi at shut off. And held 40 psi for a few minutes and then dropped to 39 psi. Is this normal?

With your cam, engine, and heads, the 24 lb injectors should be a good match. Something else is wrong. I'd suspect your chip, but the odd behavior of your FPR has me stumped.
I'm running 24 lb injectors in my 350, and I've got a smaller cam than you. You've got the right injectors, so keep looking for what else might be wrong.

Jas, it should go up, not down. What I don't understand is if you are experiencing this problem, how you are soaking your plugs?? Have you had your 9th injector tested? Also as far as the 305 chip goes, I'm not too sure how it would work. It may be that the ECM is seeing a large mass of air via the MAF and increasing the duty cycle of the "19#" injectors, with a larger duty cycle those SVO injectors could possibly dump a ton of fuel in there, even at the lower pressures you are experiencing. Try swapping out the AFPR gasket to start and then plug read, you may really need a 350 chip to get in the ballpark.

It might be your fuel pump causing the pressure to go down when u rev the engine. When a fuel pump cant keep up with the rate of flow from the injectors it would cause the pressure to drop instead of rise.

Thanks for the info. I also discovered yesterday my pressure drops in one-hour. At shut off the fuel pressure was at 40 psi at 3:16pm, 35 psi at 3:26pm, 28 psi at 3:32pm, 20psi at 3:30pm, 12 psi at 3:50pm, 8 psi at 3:56pm, 5 psi at 4:08 it's lost almost all pressure in One Hour!!
I can also smell a strong fuel odor in the oil. I supect leaking injectors
