Colorado Emissions
Colorado Emissions
Hey guys, Im fairly new here, but I have got the hang of it.
I currently live in SD, and just bought my car about 3 weeks ago.
It is a 89 Forumla 305/5spd TPI. I was always the big ford fan, but have more or less converted to chevrolet my past few cars.
Im going to be moving to Denver Co next month and I am wondering if my car would pass emmisions. As far as Im aware it isnt a very big deal to get the ol blue smoke on startup because of chevrolets valve guides. It doesnt really puff, just kind of emits some blue smoke.
Ive heard colorado is pretty strict, of course I dont have anything to compare it to, as SD will probably never have an emissions check cause noone wants to live here.
Should I be worried, because Im not...
Thanks

If you're moving to the Denver area you'll be in the "Air Care Colorado" zone. They try to imitate California. You're supposed to go through visual check, tailpipe test, and gas cap test. On the visual they pop the hood and are supposed to make sure all the smog equipment is still in the car. After that they put your car on rollers and do a "real world" test. They drive at varying speeds and test the emissions output. And then they pressure test your gas cap. On cars older than 20 years you do not have to run on the rollers. They will just do an idle-2500-idle test. Only part that ticks me off about emissions tests in my area are visual's. I think if the cars running as clean, or even cleaner than before it had the equipment that it should still pass. But it's all about making money for the transportation department.

Thanks Golden80, now I will be prepared
Im going to moving moving to the Parker (?) area for now, to live with the in-laws (ack) for a while.
No jobs left up here, and Im only 21, so I kinda wanted to get the heck outta here
Avg income in sd = $22,000 (ack)
I guess parker is about 40 minutes se of Denver, but I may be wrong, as I dont know what Im talking about.

I hated Denvers emission law crap!
Thats one of the deciding factors in my move back to pueblo. I could never get my 85 through an inspection without failing some crap A** test. The emissions monkeys loved my chrome holley! You would think that a car that gets better gas milage with an aftermarket carb than a stock one would be better for the enviroment!
As far as your 89 passing, it probably will with no problem! You wouldent beleive the total pieces of crap that pass emmisions as long as all the smog bs is on.

Denver's emissios suck because its a Liberal controlled city with that Wellington Webb moron who listens to all those damn environmentalist wackos. I'm glad my car is registered in Weld county where I don't have to pass emissions!
