While driving yesterday, I noticed smoke coming out of my drivers side dash speaker (not a huge amount but very noticable). While that was happening, my speedometer went dead. I have no clue as to what happened. I recently removed my dash speakers (and the dingus who owned the car before my installed new wire). I forgot to tape of the ends of the wire so do you think that they could have grounded somewhere causing the speedo to go dead?

 

This is a pretty generic answer, but it just sounds like a short somewhere, and it may have been on a circut related to the speedo. D--- i'm sure that helps huh!
