NEED Help ASAP Please.

Drove a 87 IROC-Z 5.7 (automatic)tonight. Its not a posi, from a stop I floored it, no peel. when it went into second, it chirped a little. Driveing 35mph, tried dropping it into second, didnt downshift. 25 Mph, tried to drop it to 1st, didnt shift down. Came to a complete stop, then went into 1,2, it went into it. At idle oil presure was atmost 25 Lbs, going 40 mph, it was only at 30Lbs.

Opinions Please..Thanks Guys!

Cool,

I'm not sure what the problem is supposed to be. The transmission won't go to first until the governor allows it - about 40-45 MPH maximum on a stock TH700-R4. The trans should easily manage a second-gear forced downshift at 35MPH, however. Is the oil pan full? Is the shifter adjusted correctly? Are there any external leaks around the servo or accumulator? The trans might not be in the best shape, and you might want to investigate.

The engine oil pressure is a different issue, but doesn't sound like a real problem. If the engine is filled with 5W-30, 10W30 or a less viscous oil like that, oil pressure will be limited better by the pressure relief valve in the pump. Remember that the dash instruments are not really precise, so the actual oil pressure might be different, and you won't know until you check it with a separate mechanical gauge.

As far as not spining the tires, a 350 TPI should be able to do this easily, even with a posi, if it is in good tune. You might consider a complete tune (see the archives).

If this is a car you are considering for purchase, you might want to shop around a bit more.

Unless you can get it for real cheap. Even in the bad condition my 305 was in when I got it, it could leave plenty of rubber on the road.
