I mean with every sort of upgrade. I just saw a magazine with a (gag)civic doing high 9's with 530hp@9300 RPM.

The civic weighs a hell of a lot less than our cars do. 530hp should get you into the 11's. Where depends on how well you hook up and shift. Good luck.

Sure! You just need a 6500 stall converter, through an 8 speed and 6.73 gears and tank tracks!

Why not go for a cool 1000 Hp. Just round it off to the nearest 1000 ! Try that and tell me you don't bash that 9 second mark.

yea.. i mean hell, while your at it, throwing every mod possible, just toss on some sort of crazy fuel system and a 500hp fogger nitro system. now, given you've already put the tank tracks on it, you theoretically should be able to hook it up.. if not, i guess its your driving skills that are lacking. seriously, are you really going to try to do this? it doesnt seem like you are, more or less just curious. yes, people have done it, and yea, money(other than skill of doing the work) is going to be the only thing that holds you back. i hope this isnt another one of those 'i want a street drivable 9sec car' posts..(anyone else remember that one?)
oh yea, 530hp isnt gonna touch nines--cant say this from experience, but from all the cars i've seen, its not gonna happen(thinking of a blown GNX right now, runs 9.5's before tweaking, and had about 950hp)

  • 74 Z28--slightly modded 383, TH400 tranny, not too quick but fun to drive

I am at about 525 hp with a 3,100 lbs chassis weight. It puts me right about 11:20's on a good night. I 100 shot on top of that puts me at 10:60's, but gearing becomes an issue for me. So, no you will not see the 9's.

A little off topic, but at St. Thomas Dragway in London Ont I saw a Mustang run a 7.56 from J&P Performance. The only thing I could see on the outside was a massive hole in the front fender towards the passenger side for a big *** turbo I guess. The wheelie bars were scraping the whole way down...wicked.
How much HP do you need for 7.56??

I think in a mustang probably 1500 - 1600 HP

What luck, some mainiac was just at Walmart when I was there showing off this time slip yesterday. He runs a 9.69 in the 1/4 mile. He drove this baby all the way down our main strip in broad daylight and it got license plates. A true 9 sec. daily driver. Over winter I forgot how big 33 inch wide mickey's really are! By the way, the car is an '88 Monte Carlo SS.

If you get your race weight around 2000 lbs, then 530 hp might get you to 9's. I'd hate to say it but the honda's are catching up. My friend ran 14.7 at 94 in his $6000 civic, stock Interga GSR engine in a light civic. Kinda scary that with a stock engine from a different car, civic's can run with stock V8s.

A 3000+ pound car needs about 800HP to get into the 9's but then you also need to be able to get that power to the ground.

youll need roughly 750 hp and a high operating range. 530 should put you in the low 11's if you can hook. the civic could do that since its half our weight and has a smaller parasitic loss

i think stephen is running at 10K feet altitude again. According to the standard 1/4 mile formula ((1/4 speed * .00426)3)/weight), you can get 135 mph (about 9.9) with 5 lbs per horsepower. Or about 600 hp with 3000lbs.

I'm always racing at altitude. That's the trouble when you live near the rocky mountains. Some day I'll go to a race at sea level just to see how good it really is.
