F/P relay bypass

Can anyone tell if I can by pass the fuel pump relay. I think I'm having a problem with the wiring at the relay. Seems everytime my car get's hot and I stop at a light the car stalls and won't restart untill it's cooled off. Motor cranks but F/P does not kick on.

Any ideas ?

You don't WANT to bypass the relay. Go buy another one and try that...

Beside, if the relay failed while the engine was running, the oil pressure switch would have powered the pump.

During this no-run period, did you hear the hum of the pump? The click of the relay?

The pump does not come on (no hum), No click from the relay either. That's what makes me think the problem is in the wiring harness to the relay. Usually if I let the car sit for 2-3 hours it'll start right up. I think your right about the oil pressure switch powering the pump, but will the oil pressure switch power the fuel pump for start up? As I understand it the O/P switch is just a back up for the relay. At least 4 lbs of oil pressure must be maintained for that switch to function.

That's why I was thinking of going from the fuse panel to a switch then to the pump wiring. that way if the relay fails I can power the pump (at least temporarily) to limp home. Getting stranded in traffic is getting really old

You can always re-wire the way the pump gets it's power.
run main power to the relay from the battery and then to the pump.
Have "iginition on" activate the relay.
You can wire in a toggle switch between the iginition power and the relay if you want to have the key in the run position and not have the fuel pump running.

With it wired like this, the pump activates and runs whenever the key is in the run position, there won't be a 2 sec pump prime either, but that won't be a problem.
