I had my car inspected today and they tinkered with my timing to get it to pass. I wasn't there but now it's not running right. I was
trying to re-time the car and I had it at 14* advance according to the tape but I noticed something was weird and when I shut the engine off I noticed the timing tape had torn half off. I don't believe the tape would slide since what was left on was still on there , the 0-50* part was still on.

Now the thing is, the engine is running rough as hell. I start it up and it revs to 1000 smoothly then drops to 750 and gets choppy and rough as hell. With the tape telling me 14* advance it was choppy as hell, no responce, like 2 second delay for revs.

I pulled off the rest of the tape knowing I had the single mark for TDC on the damper itself and when I hit the light the single mark was saying I had timing BTC, like 10 retarded. Theres no way the engine would run with that timing would it? I'm completely confused.

I guess I have to pull the #1 plug and make sure I have the right TDC mark. That being said, does it sound like the engines retarded or advanced? I just don't understand, because I advanced the engine quiet a bit and it was still choppy down low once I set the idle screw back. I just don't know what they were doing with the timing that it would be so far off from where I had it (and the engine was running smoothly when I gave it to them)
