Engine Swap Finished -> some loose ends

Hi guys,

I swapped from a 2.8 w/ auto to a 305 w/ 5spd.

the 305 is running an edelbrock 600cfm performer carb, edelbrock performer rpm air gap, and performer cam. Engine is running great.

3 questions

1. Does the vac advance go to the timed vaccum or the manifold vaccum? If set wrong, would this trick me into setting the base timing to far ahead?

2. What do you suppose the timing should be set for. I have it running excellent right now, but the timing mark is way past the little timing pointer. No knocks, but i'm concerned about the starter breaking again (I broke two starter casings a while earlier, didn't have a timing light back then, but i assume that was the problem)

3. Anyone know how to get the reverse lights to work. Wire colour/location would be helpfull. Where on the tranny do i connect to?

1. Ported vacuum. No it would not affect your setting; you're supposed to disconnect it before you set it anyway.

2. Where it runs the best.

3. Blue & green wires, to the plug on the driver's side of the transmission.
