weird noise, no hot start, temp gague

hey all, i have a 83' V6 manual camaro. I am planning on selling it asap so i can get an 8 cylinder, but i am having some problems.
1. After running my car at higher RPM's it begins to make a weird noise and it sounds like an old deisle mercades. all ****ty and rough running. oil levers are high and i dont think the car has a cat converter. could it be a hole in the muffler?
2. sometimes after running my car i can turn it off, and start it right back up again. other times if wont start at all, the startot just keeps rooling over, and gets weaker. If i wate for mabey 15 mins, and try again, it sounds like the battery is drained, but then the car starts. weird huh? any ideas?
3. last but not least, now when i make a turn, or break kinda hard, the tempature gague lights up, but once i streighten out, or stop/contine moving, the light goes off. what the hell?

thanks for taken the time here guys, it means a lot. thank for helpen a teenager out! haha

mechanic

(That's li'l mechanic for the rest of you.)

WTH?

"The Hell" #1 could be an oil starvation problem from poor drainback, air mixing into the oil (level too high), excessive carbon on valves and in chambers causing preignition, or various other possibilities. I'd advise you resolve whatever that is before any more high RPM excursions, or you'll be selling your V-6 to the junk yard instead of another driver.

"The Hell" #2 is that the engine may be flooding after heat soak. Try holding the throttle partially open when cranking the hot engine to see if that helps. If so, you may have fuel leakage into the intake that creates an extremely rich mixture, but evaporates after several hours. I'm guessing your '83 has the Rochester E2SE or Holley carb, either of which can leak.

"The Hell" #3 is that you have a temperature gauge sensor wire on the left side of the engine that is likely shorting to ground under braking and cornering. Look for a green wire.

My car was exactly like that when my starter had this huge crack all around the solenoid, it was the weirdest thing. You can check your starter with ease (i'm sure it's easier on a V6 even), just put your car on ramps, or jack it up, take off the starter (2 screw things holding it in [there's a simple word for it, but i been working too much lol]), and it's got two wires going to it, disconnect those, take out the starter, and you can see how good of shape it's in.

While you're at it, if the start looks good, make sure that the connection to them are good and clean.

how high of RPMs are we talking? when you say dieseling it makes me think that you need to use higher octane fuel for it.

not too high

not too high of rpm's, just around like 4500 - 5000, like freeway speed, or even when im on the streets i used to shift at about 3000 rpm's and now i short shift the **** outta it. pardon the french.
not so much sounding exactly like a diesel, like the fan belt is wobbeling, or somehting weird like that. like, emagine how a ****ty car sounds in the movies, thats what it sounds like
haha.
the temp gague is pissing me off,1 but tomarrow im gonna look for the short out. thanks alot guys!

Could you expand on this diesel mercedes sound? Like a pinging? a "rough" sound? Something to help clue us in.

*edit* I missed the fan belt wobbling part. Does it sound like a dull knocking / thunking noise?

I believe the temp sender fo you is in the front of the driver side head.

And does this sparatic staring happen all the time or only when hot (aka- does it start like a champ when cold, or, as good as a carb can do)

humm

humm.. well... to describe the noise. it sounds like a lawnmover is in my engine bay. haha, it really sounds like that, yet it dosent really come from the motor, it comes from the exaust it seems. not quite shure.
im thinking abour running a higher octain fuel, and possably changing out my exaust manifold gasket, or mabey the whold damn thing. dunno yet.
but deff. on the gas upgrade. ill get back with results. thanks!
