Anyone ever put a Buick in their 3rd gen???
I do not need or want to hear 50 post on why Chevy motors are
" better"
I have seen a few 455 3rd gens but I will be going with an 80 350. Last year for the Buick.
If you have done the Buick swap let me know your results.
[If you don't like the idea of putting a Buick in a 3rd gen.
Kindly keep it to yourself.]
tranny mounts n such can be fabed. Motor mounts n such will matter in the swap. Alone with PS hook ups. I may need to run a remote oil filter. wonder if normal V8 spring will do.

If you've seen stuff about a 455, then you've seen stuff about a 350.
Same motor on the outside, just less guts.
And a Buick motor from 80, will be just about as gutless as it gets. I'd be real surprised if it produces more than 185 HP; about the same as the Chevy V8s of the same size of the same period. About the only Buick V8 that would be worse, would be a 80s vintage 307; more or less equivalent to a LG4.
I think with the particular motor you've got, you'll find that it's a helluvalotta maze, and not much cheese at the end of it.
If you're really determined to put a Buick motor in your car, you'd be alot smarter to start off with a better one.

455 is a big block, 350 is a small block and different in lots of ways. The ones I have seen are here n gone with just engine pics and no real details.
I wont be ready until spring time. And Buick guys don't know much about the 3rd gen. I have visited many sites.
PAE builds a monster Buick for $6000 , 500+ hp using the stock iron parts, heads, block, crank and rods. Runs on pump gas and is very streetable. [rumor is 750 will be possible once the new aluminum heads are cast. PAE n TA performance still make Buick performance parts. A new aluminum 455 block was just cast by PAE]
All of which will keep the car very stealthy. Rather then running a fancy mostly aluminum looking chevy or other motor that will give me away as soon as I pop the hood.
I want stealth power. So all anyone will see is, well a stock looking Buick/GM motor with maybe some nice vcovers n an air cleaner.
[Course doing wheelies might give it away.]
Stealth is the key. I want everything looking stock but with mustang raping power.

A 455 is not a big or small block, nor is a buick 350. They are buick blocks, just as olds and pontiac are. The bore spacing is exactly the same, and the only difference in olds, pontiacs, and I think buicks too, is the deck height on some engines.

Also, if stealth is the key, why a buick motor? It looks totally different than any chevy, and it looks much bigger. Why not build a 400sbc, it looks the exact same, and no one can tell how many cubes, without a casting number. Then build it nice and tell them its a 305. The problem is, you cant hide 500hp anyway. Think about the last time you heard a 500hp engine, it sounds anything but stock. I would rethink the stealth plan, and go for something that wouldnt stick out like a sore thumb.

It may not be the most honorable things but I plan on putting a hurting on allot of people under the cover of darkness. Unless there is a detail engine tear down, All I will "have" is a cam and some porting. From the Qjet to pan it will be stock looking.
The Buick is just a factory stroker in many respects. Its the same bore as the 3.8 turbo engines and it has stroke from here to tomorrow.
Honestly except for the lack of support from big companies. [small folks like TA n PAE have the faith in them to cast n remake new performance parts] A Buick is just a chevy motor with a longer stroke. What is the first thing you do to a chevy??? Stroke it.
and the parts and numbers are there now. 1.5hp per cub is sweet.
I also have allot the parts. [A whole donor Buick car.]
Also the 400 n any other chevy thing has been done to death. To be different and be like a black dot in a crowd of white.
Mostly why its not a 455 Buick. Its been done a bunch already. So has the 3.8 turbo. Those hp number and parts have only come about in the last year for the Buick 350. so its real fresh but will be all over the place soon enough.
455 Buick guys are getting worried. Rightfully so.

I even considered going stick too but not sure if I could hang on and shift at the same time. There is a nice 350 stick regal around the way.

Are you trying to tell us that somebody just now "discovered" what a great motor those Buick 350s we've all been throwing away for the last 350 years are, and that somehow the laws of physics heave been permanently suspended in their presence, or what?
Seems like we took a real big jump here from a 180 HP smogger 350 at 1.6 HP/cu in or thereabouts, to pure blue-sky fantasy-land hopped up 71 GS motor 455 (one of the last 3 or whatever, remaining in existence) that you didn't say anything about in the beginning, with nearly 3 times the HP/cube. Pretty typical foreign-motor-transplant talk. Reminds me of how you see somebody post about putting some 78 TA Olds 403 in their Firebird, and all of a sudden we see crap about "well what about a HO W30 motor with 2 4-barrels, a blower and a solid roller cam?" Like that has something to do with the smogger turd they found laying out behind the shed off by the creek that runs across their uncle's back 40 that somebody threw away because it was so lame.
Anybody that thinks they're going to get 1.5 HP/cu in out of a .6 HP/cu in stock sedan motor with nothing but a cam and some porting, doesn't need to hear anything that anybody with experience has to say. Sometimes it's best to learn the hard way..... trash a car graunching some POS into it, and realize that maybe the people with the BTDT that try to warn of the hazards, aren't so stupid after all.
Let us all know how it runs when you get it done, and be sure to tell us many times you get torn down at the track by all the professional racers you've beaten.

To paraphrase: "When RB speaks, people should listen."
Compared to a 2.8, most anything will feel like it's doing wheelies.
SBC's are available in larger CIDs than a Buick 350 for certain, will be lighter than a Buick 455 for certain, even the more expensive SBC crates will yield better HP/$ than a Buick V8 for certain.
You want stealth: Try nitrous lines through the hind china wall with a hidden bottle. Doing so with a 305 will yield as much HP as any Buick 350, and with a 350, 383, 400, 412, 434, etc., sprayed SBC, more than a NA Buick 455 and for fewer $'s.
For the sake of flame reduction, we'll close the door for now, at least.
