Sob Story and ? About Rings
I have a block that I'm assembling this week for the 4th time, and hopefully the last.
Originally the block was bought assembled and it sat gathering dust for so long that I thought I should take it down for cleaning.
While it was down I took it to the machine shop for decking and after I'd put it together, I noticed that there were still some chips left in it from machining. So I tore it down again and had it tanked and had new cam bearings installed. Then after I assembled it again I noticed that I'd mismarked the top and middle rings, so I took it apart again and fixed that.
After assembeling it for the 3rd time, I was torquing the rod bolts and felt uncomfortable about how much a couple of them had stretched. So I decided to get a set of new ARPs put in there and also had the rotating assy balanced. ...Oh and I dropped a piston too and it wouldn't go back in, so I bought a new one.
So here I am today about to put this thing together for the 4th time and I'm wondering, have these rings had it? With all the times they've been removed and reinstalled.
I used a ring expanding tool for the compression rings, so I'm not that concerned about them, but the oil rings will have been contorted something like 8 times by the time all is done.
Will those rings seal after all that?
or should I get new rings too?
Thanks

The balancing was done after the piston was replaced.
Yeh... I'm gonna get new rings, I was fighting it at first, but I'll do it right.
I thought guys would be all ROFLMAO over this story. Everytime I try to get something done on this project, it's like an episode from the three stooges.
The way things have been going with this, I'm trying to figure out ahead of time whether I should re sleeve it after this +060 block cracks, or just concede.

Stuff happens. You will always run across problems no matter how small the project. Guys out there may think its commical, and to a point it is, in the sense that your frustration can be felt.
Could happen to anyone...
Glad you got it basically done now...
I would just get another block instead of sleeving that one. Cost involved would sway me to a new one instead.
