The BIG Thump?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be making the thumping noise in my 91 Z when I hit the gas. I think it is probably the tranny moount has gone or possibly broken a motor mount. It just started yesterday and all I've had time to check is my U-Joints which are fine. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

If you hear a thump when you floor it from the stop, your tranny mount is broken. It's so common in these cars that further diagnosis is pointless.

btw, if you could check the u-joints, how could you not check the tranny mount. All you had to do was push up?

I know I only looked at the tranny mount. It looks in bad shape. I am going to put the car on jack stands and unbolt the mount bolts and jack on the tranny to see if the mount seperates or not. I probably should have checked that when I had it up in the first place. (DUH!)

Just to add, get an energy suspension poly unit, it has a metal interlock so that no matter how far it stretches it can't actually physically seperate.
Also, in the meantime until you get it fixed, take it easy on it. With the tranny flopping around like that you are subjecting your u joints to some torture.

Yeah I have been. When it started I went directly home and parked it, and when I do drive it its under the speed limit with as little gas as possible, so I don't hear it knockin on my tunnel.
