hotter cam
I'm thinkin of getting a new cam for my 1984 stock trans am (L69), what should the exhaust and intake duration be? Will I need new retainers and springs. I don't want to get too radical of a cam, but i would like some more power. Any suggestions? Also I need to pass emmissons

A good cam for an L69 is a comp cams 256 xtreme energy grind (212/218 @50). This will give a power peak at about 5500. The 262 (218/224 @50) is also good but will push the peak to 6000 and may require some head porting to really get the full benefit.
Those cams have a 110 LSA and may not be computer friendly. I don't think of L69s as having a computer since most of the ones I have seen have been modified. Someone else may have some input here. Crane make a seies of compucams which are OK.

Any time you change a stock cam, you should get new springs. Also on a non-roller cam, you must get new lifters as well.
