Ok so I've been driving the car for almost half a year now and everythings been fine since the last month or so.. I've got this clicking sound under the middle of the hood as I push on the gas, it doesnt happen when the car is in park.. when it switches gears it tends to get more noticeable, a couple people have mentioned it sounds like lifters, if this is true what am I looking at to get this fixed? also if lifters are the problem then what else should I change/get if I need to have this done? (im shooting for a little over 350HP in the long run, didnt want to do this stuff now but if I have to, I have to..) thanks for any help.

How many miles on the car? Could be lifters, could be just clicking noise from the injectors (Less noticable in park prehaps because of the lower engine speed than when accelerating), or even more likely, the rockets need to be re-lashed. Do the easy stuff first, listen closely to the injectors while the car is running, so if you notice an peticular noise from them, or maybe one or two in peticular, then check the valve lash. If it's not one of the two easy ones, could be the lifters...which if your gunna do the lifters, do a cam and baseplate, and if funds allow...heads. Get if over with now.

Oh ****, it just crossed my mind! Louder in drive than in park, eh? In drive the car is under more load....could the something as simple as the header gaskets, which are also very likely with the edelbrock TES systems. I got sick of doing mine, so I ground them as flat as possible, and used a copper gasket with locking bolts...no problems yet.

Well supposeably the car has 84,700 on it right now.. When I bought it it had 81,300 or something, who knows if thats true its not really that hard to spin back the odometer.. anyways Ill have the fuel injectors checked out and stuff, its possible its the header gaskets and they probably need to be replaced anyways, I have to put an exhaust donut in today cuz the exhaust sounds like **** at the moment, hopefully its all related.. kinda figured it would make sense to get a new cam and heads if the lifters needed to be changed.. would it be practical to just rebuild the engine if I was going start putting in stuff like new heads/cam/intake etc? would it be much more to rebuild? thanks

Let's try this again...

The noise is an exhaust leak, probably where the headers bolt to the heads.

Replace the gaskets. I'd recommend the Mr Gasket copper ones; they're sort of spendy, but on my car with TES, I haven't had to replace one yet. Use the washers they supply and follow instructions.
