I need help.. I have a target motor that i just put in and will not start all the time... I have hei, a brand new battery, and a brand new starter. It starts VERy hard, almost like there is a 800 amp draw on the starter, the battery totally bogs down and the car wont start. Occasionally I get a good start and it will run long enough for me to mess with a few things, but when I go to start it back up, the same thing happens and it seems like the battery is dead, but it is BRAND NEW. Could it be that i need to put some starter shims in it?... I hate my car right now, and I have exausted all my options that i know of to get the stupid thing running. I have the stock qjet on right now, only because it is easier to start, when i finally have it running I have a holley 650 to put on.. then probally a dozen more questions... I really need some ideas here, so help if you can THanks. Dave

 

How's the timing,maybe a deffective starter or it could be a bad ground from the battery. I had a problem like yours and checked everthing and it was the battery ground.
