question about removing ac
hey my buddy has a 91 rs and wants to get rid of the ac. the question he has is will a pully system from an 89 truck without ac work or will the hood hit the brackets? another question is if that works, what about the thing that holds the compresser thats on the firewall, can you remove that? thanks guys

Why not just get a $30 A/C delete pulley from GM parts direct instead of switching brackets? Will work a ton. Search for A/C delete and you will find tons of info.
AS for the box,yes you can remove it. You will need either a heater only box like in the 1le cars, or block off the hole if heat isn't needed.

well we we thinking this but the belt tensioner is on the ac compresser so will the ac delete still work?
edit: also will parts stores have the heater motor he will need? what options does that 1LE car come with so that the people looking up the part will know if it is the heater only box?

Yes, the AC delete pulley will still work. If you look closely, the belt tensioner is next to the compressor, it's not actually on it.
You can't get non-AC heater box from an auto parts store. Your options are to either get a new one from the dealer, get one from the junkyard, or just keep the stock one but plugs the holes or make a block-off plate.
I completely removed the AC from my 91 RS. It's not hard. Just remove the compressor and install the delete pulley, remove all the lines, remove the condensor (the large piece in front of the radiator), the reciever-drier (the cylinder-shaped piece attached to the heater box). Now you can either plug the two holes that go into and out of the heater box, get a non-AC heater box, or remove the top plastic piece, remove the evaporator (the gold-colored piece inside the heater box) and make a block-off plate (I just got done making my custom block-off plate 2 days ago, it's not hard, all you need is some metal, some way to cut the metal, and RTV).
I can go into more detail if necessary.
