Not all 350s are fast or powerful.
What exactly is yours built out of? In particular, what heads, what pistons, what cam, what exhaust, what gears, what converter?

try doing a basic tune-up, and up the size of your jets on your carb. If you're still having problems beating a civic from a dead stop then I might suggest looking at replacing some suspension

umm in apple valley. about 30 min out of the twin cities. and i'm sorry about the spelling. i had just gotten beat and couldn't accpect the fact yet. but i just had changed the plugs and wires. i have t-5 tranny. so no converter thier. brand new clutch. i used AC delco plugs and bog wanner nascar 8mm wires.my carb is running rich i know but that shouldn't have that big of an effect. should it.?? and did you know any "normal" humman can read a word if the last and first letters are the same. and as long as the word is about the same length also. so i don't see y you have a hard time reading that. and i also don't know what i have in the car. it's all gm parts. the owner 2 owners ago did the swap. and still had all emmsison on thier

well explain your race with the Honda? They dont have much torque at any RPM, but seem to have a pretty flat torque curve judged by my butt-o-meter dyno. So you should have walked him like he was standing still until you hit about 40-45mph, then he probably started gaining, and depending on how fast you guys were going up to it's possible he beat you.
Now if the honda totally walked you from the dead stop, all the way through then you've got something wrong with your car, or the place you raced at was not the best. An example of something similar to your problem.
I was racing a friend's 1997 Honda Accord one night, we didnt think we were going to meet but sorta bumped into each other so it wasnt planned or anything, we drove by each other for about 2 miles until we stopped at a stop light together, well the stop light was on a huge hill, and i floored it as soon as it went green, she gave it 3/4 throttle and w/ as little torque as it put out it only chirped the tires, all the while i was burning rubber till she got to about 35- 40 and shut down b/c she thought my car died or something haha.
Morale of story : dont go WOT on a hill, espescially when your stock suspension sucks
just goes to show yah, you can be beat when the scenario suits it.

So, what heads, pistons, cam, & gears does it have? What exhaust is on it, pipe sizes specifically, from the heads to the street? What are we working with here? Kind of hard to tell why it's slow and what you should do, without knowing what it is.
Also, I strongly recommend getting the block casting number, and posting it.

f he blew past you from a roll of 15mph then i'd definetly suspect that the other guy has done a bunch of mods or is using "naws".
Civic low end sucks, our low end can keep up with the LT1 and LS1's for a little bit atleast, and you KNOW those engines can pwn a stock civic all day long at half throttle... thus, your car is not working right (at all), your a bad driver (doubt it, but never seen you drive before), or the civic is very much not stock.
If you're sure that your car is running up to par, and if you have an automatic, then I've got a good hunch the Civic you raced was very modded.
Have you raced anything else other than the Civic? That might be a better judge since you're only going on one race, where you dont know what the other fellah is runnin'.

It'd be alot more productive to hold the Honda comments, since nobody here cares..... let's concentrate on helping the guy improve his car.
Which would be alot easier if he'd tell us what he has.
The drivel about Honda is monkey spank and a waste of bandwidth.
