TPI to Carb Swap--Will This Set-Up Work

I am switching my TPI to a carb setup. I have a Holley 600cfm (pn1850-c) carb from a previous motor and a Weiand X-CELerator intake manifold(pn 7547) also from that motor. Right now I have a stock L98 with headers, 3" exhaust and a Flowmaster 80 series muffler. I plan to upgrade to better heads and a cam as well as a higher stall TCC and a 3.73 gear. My question is will the holley carb and the Weiand manifold work okay until I can afford to do the upgrades mentioned above?

The intake is a single plane with a range of 2000-6500RPM's. Any advice is appreciated.

It should work with the few mods that you do have. most people will tell you that with a single plan manifold you may sacrifice low end. what do you plan on doing with the car? daily driver? weekend warrior? both?

I basically want something that will eventually have close to 400 hp that can be driven on the street, but occasionally take a trip down the strip too. It won't be a daily driver.

I used to have an 81 Camaro that I built a monster 355 for, the problem was I could only enjoy the power at the track and that eventually led me to sell it.

if your looking to get up to 400 hp you probably need to get a bigger carb, say a holly 700cfm DP and if its gonna see more street use. a dual plane intake will give you more lowend so when your at a red light and some kid in a honda revs his motor at you, you can leave his booty in your rearview! LOL I only have a stock 305 in my 86 and just put a performer RPM airgap ( dual plane ) on it a week ago and noticed big improvement. motor has like 220,000 miles on it and still runs pretty good. 350 is going in soon!

Yeah, I had a Holley 750 double pumper from the motor out of the 81 Camaro but I sold it a while back. I had the Holley 600 and was going to use it until I invested in better heads, cam and other stuff.

I agree about the dual plane for street use, I still had the Weiand manifold and was trying to use it instead of buying a new dual plane. The more money I can save, the more money I can spend on other go fast goodies!

Amen to that!
I say use the single plane and run it. if you dont like it, put the dual plane on your christmas list

That's my plan. I hope to have some other work finished on the car by the first of the year, that way I can really start concentrating on the powerplant.
