Swapping a Poncho 400 Carb in place of my 305 TPI

What all would have to be changed for me to swap out my 305ci TPI for an old Poncho 400 carbureted? I would love to make my car a "true" pontiac back by poncho power... I saw a great liscence plate frame that said "Fuel Injection Is Nice, But I'd Rather Be Blown."

The best thing to do would be to

This has been covered probably a thousand times. This isnt the right board for this either, try the Engine Swap, you will find all the help you need there, not that it is that difficult, just expensive. You are looking at mounts, headers, fuel system (cause of the carb). Its not too bad.

ok, well, this is all well and good but the guy asked for some help, and just because it wasn't placed within the right amount of mouse clicks don't mean he should be ignored. first, you will have to make certain your tranny will mate up...some tranny bellhousings will not...you will need a B-O-P style bellhousing...you have a basic Chevy bellhousing if i am not mistaking. by B-O-P i meant Buick-Olds-Pontiac. once that is all in line, you are gonna have to make sure the tranny you have has a mount for the torque arm unless someone else has a solution for this? but anyhow, once this is addressed, you will have to remove your engine, tranny, engine wiring harness and you might as well remove your computer as you won't need it anymore. you will also need to make sure that the tranny lengths will match up so your driveshaft length will be sufficient. sometime during the swap you will need to put a standard sending unit in the fuel tank, as your high pressure fuel pump will be WAY TOO MUCH for a carbed motor. you can get one out of an early carbed car. that will give you just a fuel gauge sending unit so you can just have your motor mounted mechanical fuel pump or a lo-pressure electric. as far as wiring goes, you COULD use your factory TPI harness, but it would be MUCH cleaner to either go to painless wiring or modify yours...you will need to remove all the computer sensors...all you will need (im assuming it is an HEI equipped engine or WILL be when you are done with it) is your basic wires that are on any carbed motor...this is all i can think of for now, anyone feel free to chime in with more...

oh yea, i had forgotten about the special mounts (you will need them for the Poncho block) and your stock manifolds won't work anymore...it DO get expensive!!

There's a guy swapping a 455 into his third gen. He's got the info posted in the "engine swap" section. Check it out.

Yes, Engine Swap Forum.

Look at the top "Important/Useful" stickies. I know there are a lot of stickies on that forum, but the response on this topic shows how much interest there is in it.

(And then he decides to sell the car - are you willing to risk that???? jk )
