Car won't stay running after new reulator installation

I got my adj. fp regulator put on again, the old one had a blown gasket, and I can't get the car to stay running after hooking everything (plenum, runners) back up. I have a JET brand adj. regulator and I was wanting to know if I need to add more pressure to get the car to stay running. I don't have access to a gauge and I don't want to put the pressure too high and blow the regulator gasket again. What should I do?

Um, get a gauge? That's about the only way you will get a proper adjustment.

Typically, an engine will idle well at anything down to about 28 PSIG. If the warm idle quality is a problem, it's more likely not the fault of the fuel pressure but a vacuum line or electrical connector that was inadvertently not connected or improperly connected.

...and if you disconnected the TPS and throttle body to remove the plenum and fuel rails, check the TPS voltage and TB and IAC gaskets.

I just bought a gauge earlier tonight, and set the pressure to 45psi with the vacuum hose off. Still it wouldn't turn over. I didn't disconnect the TPS or anything like that. I don't know if the engine's flooded or what, but I think it may be. Before I had the gauge the pressure was set around 60psi, at least that's what it was when I first hooked the gauge up. Would this cause the engine to flood, even if the engine was running for only a few seconds?? I think I may have flooded the engine during this run, and if it is flooded, how long before it will turn over again?? Also, the only time the engine ran there was white smoke coming out of the tailpipes for a few seconds.
