88 GTA Cam into a 87 IROC?

I have a buddy that has a stock cam out of his 88' GTA which he is willing to sell me.... after looking at the stock numbers on my stock cam and his here is what I found... both are roller cams, and both engines are L98's

My 1987 stock Cam specs
Lift: Intake: 0.404, Exhaust: 0.415
Duration: Intake: 0.202, Exhaust: 0.207
Lobe Separation: 114.5
Rocker Arm Ratio: (115/-114)

1988, 1989 GTA stock cam specs
Lift: Intake: 0.415, Exhaust: 0.430
Duration: Intake: 0.207, Exhaust: 0.213
Lobe Separation: 117.0
Rocker Arm Ratio: (116/-118)

Couple of questions...

1. Is this cam swap do-able?
2. Will I net some gain from this cam?
3. Is there any down sides to this cam? ie: PROM re-programming etc etc

I can get the cam for fairly cheap (he swapped out to a much bigger cam/heads/mini-ram intake etc etc)

I need the "cam" experts opinion here... I want to squeeze more power out of my engine but I don't have the cash to go for a bigger aftermarket cam and heads right now....

IMO not really worth the effort of the swap. If you were going to go through with a cam swap, might as well go bigger than that.

I'm by no means a cam expert, but here it goes. Naturally the larger cam will be a bit hotter, although in this case, I doubt the power increase would be anything to write home about. Another cam to think about is the LT1 series cam.

It would be a direct bolt in.

I'w with LJ. I don't think it would really be worth it.

What would be a good cam to swap in... keeping in mind that I won't be changing the heads (no cash for that right now), but I would change the cam if I knew (a) it would give me some decent gains in ET's and HP (b) it would work with my stock heads , and (c) would still be good when I upgraded the heads...

The thing about factory heads is the limitation of lift. Until you get the heads machined for more lift, you are limited to cam selection. Especially with a roller. You need a small lift so the retainer doesn't slam into the guide boss.

Once you get past the head issue, then comes the tuning required for larger cams, which is a whole new story.

I guess then the cam is out of the question for now... I kind of figured you should do the cam and heads at the same time, and before that get ready to dig into the PROM to get it tuned properly....

I would like to do the heads this winter before the track opens again but I don't have the cash right now for both....
