What engine do I have??
What engine do I have??
Ok.. I have a 305 and the VIN sais I have the LG4 engine (and no G92 on the RPO sheet). But she dosn't act like a LG4.. it moves quite a bit faster. I was reading that LG4 cars while doing torque burns will only have one wheel spinning and the other periodically spin wheras the L69 has both wheels spinning.. and both my wheels definetly spin.. So, help me out.. what engine do I have ?? How can I tell for sure??
Thanks..
Thanks..
Sounds like you're talking about a posi rear. You can get an LG4 with a posi.LG4's are crap (trust me) but you could spin both tires in one. If you have the stock 215's in the back, those good 'ole skinny tires will allow you to spin quite a bit.

Yeah, LG4's aren't THAT bad. Better than a six cyl. :P
Besides, I can spin both my tires (235/60 15's) for a long time.......on wet pavement.

To answer your question, if you're sure it's a 305, and it has a carb. then it's an LG4.
I had a LG4 w/ a 3.42 posi rear (factory) in my 82 Z28, and it felt much stronger than other LG4's I had driven. It also had the TH200 tranny instead of the 700R4. Mine would smoke the BFG 235/60/15 that I had on the car bone stock, but my car was a hardtop, had no interior power accessories, no tilt, no cruise,it was even radio delete car, and had the factory fiberglass hood that they used in 82-83. It only weighed 3240 bone stock with nothing taken off, so that's one reason my car felt much stronger than all the other T top, full power cars I had driven.

Ooops, I just read my post, what I meant to say was, if you're sure it's a 305 and it has a carb. with a single snorkel intake, then it's more than likely an LG4. My bad, I was in a hurry. The L69's had the dual snorkel intake, not to say that you couldn't have an L69 with a single snorkel, it's just unlikely.

If you check the casting number on the engine You would be able to confirm what engine you have. The number is located on the right side at the rear of the engine. If you go to the head and follow it to the firewall and go down the head to the block you will find a ledge. Can all the **** of the block and you will find the casting number. Do a search on the archives on "casting numbers"
