Offset Wristpins, Whatsit Do ?

Just wondering about offset pins.
I realize that by offsetting the pins in relation to the crank rotation, the rod angularity is changed slightly. But what exactly are the benefits of this?
And what are the disadvantages?
Are offset pins good for performance apps?

Anyone know?? Thanks

Many stock pistons have the wristpin offset about 1/32". Helps reduce piston "slap" (rocking of the piston in the bore) as it passes TDC and gets pushed on during the power stroke. Reduces noise and wear.

Ever wonder why most stock pistons have a little notch on the top that must point towards the front of the engine regardless of which bank you install them in? This is why.

For power production it doesn't mean a whole lot. We're talkiing very very slight differences here.

Many aftermarket pistons don't have any wristpin offset (wristpin is truly centered).

Hmmm... So If I'm given a choice between offset or centered which should I order?

Buy the pistons that are right for your application. If they happen to be offset, use them. If they happen to be non-offset use them. If all else is truly equal (and it never is) then I go for non-offest if it's anything other than a stock rebuild.
