When I shift out of park.....

Alright guys I just got my new motor in my camaro, and it runs but when I shift from Park into any gear it stalls.

This is a 90 RS, that was TBI but is now Carb 350, and a 700R4.

I bought the car with no engine, and put this one in, what is it doing guys?

Thanks

Whenever you shift out of Park, the engine will reduce its RPMs slightly. It's possible that you're just at the threshold where the engine will cease to run because it can't sustain itself at such a low RPM.

What's the car idling at? Have you tried bumping up the idle speed a little bit and seeing if it'll still stall when shifted out of Park?

I'd suggest going to the carb board, your carb just needs the drive idle adjusted....

REcheck your timing.

What size cam do you have in this motor? I have seen problems where to large a cam mated to a stock torque converter can cause this....

also a "stuck on" TCC lockup solenoid will cause this.

The TCC solenoid is located inside the transmission pan and would need to be replaced. Another thing to check would be to see if the wire harness is connected for it. This is located on top of the tranny pan back of the shifter lever, it is a 4 prong connector with three wires in it. The fourth pin in it is not used.

Aight guys...The wiring harness is not connected there, where can I find this connecter? does it come down that hole in the tranny hump along with the shifter cable?

I bet mine has the same problem. I have tbi and my car will jerk hard after shifting out of park unless i give it gas, then it shifts smooth. It will also stall when in gear and stopped suddenly, shifted out of park or parked idling for a long time.

The engine code thrown says egr is bad. Does your car throw any codes when it stalls relating to the transmission or something else? I know my transmission was changed by the previous owner.. Would this transmission solenoid problem still be a problem when cruising for a long time? I do get a code when cruising at high speed but i suspect it is egr related. Since that was also replaced by the previous owner. Seems like everything the previous owner touched has ended up going to hell.

yes the wire and 4pack connector should be coming out of the hump above the trans.

This, if for no other reason, is why folks shouldn't mess with cars when they have no idea what they're doing.

Whats the point of hopping up to a 350 and putting a carb on, if you can't drive the car.

I built the 383 stroker in my Iroc-z and pretty much redone this one, excuse the hell out of me for not knowing where the connector was coming from smartass.. Oh yeah and thanks 84camz28

Did reconnecting that plug fix your stalling problem? Every thread i look at that describes this problem just ends right when someone looks to try something that might fix it. This type of problem has happened on TPI/TBI/CARB and nobody has yet to show what the problem is. Just ideas on idle speed adjustment. So, did reconnecting the plug work ...and if not did you try something else?
