Coolant leak - DOESN'T LOOK GOOD!
Hey guys - we're talking about an 88 lo3/700r4.... I'm leaking coolant pretty badly from the flywheel, torque convertor area... It appears to be leaking right off the bottom of the convertor - what do you guys think it is?

could be many many things ..
bad freeze plug in the engine ?
could even be a bad hose on your heater core leaking down
have you looked from the top down with a drop light to try and pin point it ??

FW/TC area eh?.... I had a coolant leak above that area, the intake manifold wasn't bolted down tight enough and the coolant was leaking out from the bolt hole, dripped down the back of the block, onto the trans, and finally dripped to the ground from the inspection cover. See if you can trace the line of water, you might just have the same problem i did.

Yeah, I briefly looked at it from the top. I was primarly looking for an intake gasket leak of some sort - but then reasoned that since it was leaking from the convertor cover itself, that it would probably have to be leaking from inside the bellhousing someplace.
How big of a pain is it to do freeze plugs?

if its a freeze plug inside the bellhousing area then you will have to drop the transmission and punch a hole in the freeze plug without driving it into the block ....i usually just use a drill and drill a 3/8 hole in it and then pry it out with a strong screwdriver or punch
when reinstalling make sure to use sealer on the plugs and tap them in i use a socket just small enough to fit into the plug ....
also dont drive the plug in too far ...look at the one thats in there now thats how far the new one needs to go
