87 tpi Cat size?

I was woundering what the size of the Cat on an 87 lb9 auto 3" in and 2.5" out. I'm going to remove the cat will a strigh piece of 3" pipe work?

Farm & Fleet = test pipe. (At least they USED to have them available.)

It is the "3 inch" factory cat. In reality it is 3" in, w/ a little over 2 3/4" out because of the slight neck down for the I-pipe to mate up with.
