transmission problems, not thirdgen, not even a car ,VADER please help :)

i lost all forward direction (works fine in reverse and no noise) in my gravely 817 mower. the clutch seems to work and adjusted to correct air gap. if any one knows gravelys and might have an idea i could use a little help and a diagram of the trans. getting ready to pull the engine and work on trans. i know it's not thirdgen related but i'm in pretty tight with a few of the moderators here so maybe they'll keep this open for me.

vader i figured i could get you in here by directing this to you, since i know how much you like being singled out.

Well, I could help, but I'm not Vader....

BWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

Just giving you some grief, Ede. Truth is I don't know squat about mowers. Mine is a hand-pushed, non-powered "reel" type mower that still cuts grass after thirty years.

If it was me, I would tear it apart. Tranny's aren't that complicated.

Stop kidding yourself, it's a race mower. Just drop a th400 in and jack it up like a mother. Then you shouldn't have any tranny problems at all

How much lawn do you have to mow, and in how little time? You might have to put a blown big block in it and maybe rewire it a little, now that the trans has puked.

OBTW I don't know jack about that kind of a mower.

Well ede, whether or not this is a joke or not i don't know. I can never tell. I have a poor sense of humor. (Some call it dry) BUT, a friend of mine at school's dad is a tractor/lawn mower specialist. I'll see what he says. If you haven't figured it out already. Next time don't try to take it to the nearest hicktown dragstrip...Them john deer's pull mighty hard

If it didn't pop really loud, you may have just sheared a key. Sell it and get a IH Cub Cadet. I've got a 70' Cub 127 Hydrostat, it will never die.
