What the hell happened?

I was driving (a little rainy, could be the problem?) today when all of a sudden my car stalled. Tried to start it but it wouldn't turn over. I had plenty of power in my battery but it just wouldn't crank. As soon as I would turn the key I would get nothing. I open my hood and saw nothing unusual. I got back in the car and was about to lose my S*** when I tried it and it started. What the F***? I did notice yesterday that when I gave it some gas it hesistated a little.

I am no expert but perhaps it was two different problems. The not cranking could be starter heat soak issues and the staling and hesitating could be a broad range of problems ranging from ignition to emission control. I just fixed my stalling problem; EGR valve was not staying shut very well. Doh, well looks like I really was not able to help you much after all....hmm well I can give you this piece of advice I learned today. If you are going to port your heads that are full of carbon deposits wear some sort of mask otherwise you might sneeze continually while trying to post a message.

Or have them Mag'ed First.

Back to the Topic, Sounds like an intermittant Loss of contact, somewhere

Not incredibly informative of me, is it...

Its possible the rain caused a Short someplace, as well.

See if you can't duplicate it, Check for loose wires around the starter.

Maybe check to see if you have a cracked distributor cap, rain getting in it can cause problems.

hahaha, good call

and, i had te same problem in my 74.. it would randomly shut off, let me sit several times before i got fed up w/it and handed it over to a 'backyard' mechanic, who said there was a wire shorting the car out everytime it swung against some metal piece.. anyways, look around, maby a cut wire or something(exposing it and causing a short)

JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH HERE.
I TOO HAD A STALLING PROBLEM IN MY 83 MONTE. FRAYED WIRES RUNNING ALONG TOP OF VALVE COVER ON PASSANGER SIDE. JUST TAPED IT ALL UP AFTER MAKING SURE THE WIRE WAS STILL GOOD. STILL HAD SAME THING HAPPEN. PUT A NEW DISTRIBUTOR CAP ON, BUT WHEN I LOOKED A THE BOTTOM OF THE COIL (HEI), IT SEEMED ALL RUSTY LOOKING. I JUST SCRAPED IF OFF WITH A SMALL SCREWDRIVER SO THE SPRING GOING THROUGH THE CAP MAKE A GOOD CONTACT. (PUT SOME DILECTRIC GREASE ON IT TOO)

ALSO HAD PROBLEM NOT STARTING. WOULD GO ONE TIME, NEXT DAY SEEMED DEAD, NEXT DAY WOULD START. MAIN FEED WIRE ON STARTER WAS GREEN. ALL GUNKED UP. SANDED IT ALL OFF AND PUT A LITTLE GREASE ON IT BEFORE REASSEMBLY. NO PROBLEMS SINCE.
