44. Oxygen sensor lean

What is happening to your car? Does the code go away? Does it affect performance at all?

I don't know how a short in your tail light would cause your 02 sensor to show lean :P

I think most of the time it is a self correcting problem, you are just being informed that you aren't getting enough fuel. Maybe you need to check that out. What size injectors are you running on the new engine? If you had a 305 in your car before you might be depriving your engine of fuel if you didn't upgrade your fuel system.

Hey....8Mike9....buenos dias.

FORMER King of the 44 Club. After 10 months I solved my 44.

To the other Mike: I'm not real sure on the carbed setup but consider the following possibilities, probably in this order.

Fuel filter.
Vacuum leaks from hoses to carb.
Most important and what took me 10 months to figure out. Make SURE manifold bolts are tight. My middle 4 were so loose I could turn it with a 1/4 drive socket = major vacuum leak. Other causes:
02 sensor.
Plugged Cat.
Plugged Muffler.
Air diverter valve malfunction (unlikely).

The 86's also had a bugged PROM that would set false 33 and 44 codes.
