A homemade "cool can" for my fuel
I tripped over this on some off road guys website, it looks easy enough to build.
Anybody have any opinions? What exactly is it good for? I've heard that cooler fuel is best for performance, yes or no and why.

Well you have to put alcohol and ice in there to really cool the fuel down. The reason for cooling it is, it will make the fuel more dense, thereby getting more fuel to the motor. And we all know that more fuel means more power

cool for about 5 minutes, now I'm sick of it)

i made one once for a 69 z/28 we were racing back in the 80s. all i did was take a piece of aluminum fuel line and wrap it around a fence post and stick it in a can. i stuck the ends of the line thru the can and used RTV to make a seal. after i had it done i wished i'd used copper or steel line so i could of soldered it, but it worked.

Is there any real point to making the fuel more dense? I mean if you have more fuel then won't the ecm take that into consideration and lean it out a bit?

Cooler fuel means a cooler intake charge, which in turn means more power.

it's a good idea and it works well. cold fuel will flow faster to start with as well as hold pressure better. cold fuel also has the same effect as cold air. as it gets cold it compresses which is the only way liquid compresses is by cooling it. same idea with checking trans fluid when it's warm. expands when it's cold. one spray from an injector of 20 degree fuel holds more explosive capability than 80 degree fuel. on a high pressure fuel system like tuned ports, this is very helpfull keeping fuel temps down. it does have very little effect on air intake charge temp though. another advantage is the ability to use more advance on the ignition timing since it takes longer to evaporate and burn.
