engine question

hey guys. i've just rebuilt my motor over last winter. now winter is coming up again and i'm thinking about buying a trick flow engine kit from summit. the motor is from a 89 truck 350. well i got it bored .030 over and did some minor work to it, but i want more. now i got looking through summit and i saw these trickflow kits. there is one for 350hp and one for 420hp tested on a 350. now my car is tbi, and i know i'll have to change to carburated, which i don't mind. now i'm sure it will but would these engine kits work? i know i'll need a new distributer, carb intake, and carb.. and then the engine kit. but will it be ok to use the engine kit on my motor? the kit comes with heads, cam, rockers, timing chain and gears, head bolts, and all the gaskets you need. it tells you the intake to buy and what carb to buy. the kit that is 350hp tells you to buy the edelbrock performer rpm intake and holly600cfm carb, and the 420hp kit tells you to buy the edelbrock victor jr manifold and holly 750cfm carb. the item numbers are

TFS-K134-350-400
TFS-K314-420-395

anyones input on this would be appreciated. thanks

The big thing is to make sure that your compression ratio is correct. If you dont have the proper compression ratio, it isnt going to deliver whats promised.

alright, i think they said 9.5 or 10.1 compression ratio. if they're giving you the whole top end, how would you not have that compression ratio? my whole motor is reubilt but i want more. the bottom end, and in theis kit they give you everything on the top end.. so how would you not have that compression ratio? i don't know anything about this.

Stock pistons will not yield that. Flat tops are what they are assuming your using.

Not only are they assuming that you are running flat top pistons, but they are also assuming that you are running with a zero deck block. We all know how the rebuilder pistons are, typically sitting .020 lower in the bore than standard flat tops.

i have a small domed piston they aren't flat though, and my block is decked, i told the machinist to do what he feels would be best for the motor and order me parts he feels would be best. so he decked the block and got me a set of pistons with a small dome

Small dome? You mean dish? If they are domed you are going to have 11:1 +. That is not pump gas friendly. I suggest talking to your mechanic. You are also going to have to check your piston to valve clearance then, cause domes are not nice to valves, even with valve "indents".
