cam/head/intake combo's -- need help to understand

Hey guys,

I've been following a lot of posts in the past few weeks about cam/head/intake combos and trying to figure out the logic behind all this and well.... I am still trying.

I know the basic theory behind most of this stuff, but when I start reading responses to questions from some people like me, it still seems like black art. Are there any good resources/sites/books out there that explain all this stuff a little more so I can memorize those before coming back here and start asking tons of questions what would work and what wouldn't in my engine?

What about desktop dyno? Is it worth to by that software just to play around with different combinations to gain better understanding?

An engine is really just an air pump that is powered by gasoline and air. There really no stead fast combos, just parts that work together by trying to accomplish the same things at the same time. DD2000 is a very good tool for comparing combos. You can adjust the parts and see what their effect are upon power, rpm range and power band.

To get the most out of your air pump (engine) you need to let it breathe. It will make more power if it can get air in and air out as easy as possible.

Good combos are based upon several factors, what the intended purpose of the engine is, how much money is going to be spent, what the car is going into.... It all depends upon what you want to do, and how much you have to spend.
