Anyone Ever Had This Problem??!

So i killed my speedo cable by not moving it out of the way properly when i threw in headers. I pulled out the old cable, drove the car home (i was at my friends house) bought a new cable went to put it in, got the dash and junk all back together, went to hook it up to the transmission and the cable will not go in. it's like the hole is blocked, but because of the angle, i can't get a good view of what is blocking it. the cable is the right size and everything, i checked that. I tried getting the old cable back in, it wont go either. Im totally stumped here, anybody have any guesses, aside of a magical rock er sumtin that managed to get in there on the 2 1/2 mile drive???

The metal core of the speedo cable is square-shaped and engages a square-shaped hole in the tranny sender...it's usually easier if you install it the opposite of the way you did it.

Install the tranny side of the cable first. The cable core may slide away and not fully engage the tranny sender, that's OK. Just get the outer housing of the cable installed and gently tightened.

Then, go back to the speedo side and rotate the metal core while gently pushing it in...it'll slide into the hole in the tranny end and you'll feel it move and then stop turning. You can then install it into the speedo, that recepticle turns freely unlike the trans, so the cable will generally find it's way into place with light pressure.

I have another camaro that I checked on before I asked this question... i undid the speedo from the sender and the cable pulled right out and then slipped right back in, no problem. This one won't even begin to go in, something is def. wrong. Can the gear inside implode on itself or anything?

Dunno, but it's pretty easy to remove the sender housing from the trans and inspect it. Just one bolt I believe.

yea, thats what i just did, didn't realize it was that easy of a thing to pull off... anyways, yea, so apparently a chunk of the old cable broke off inside, that's what was blocking the hole. thanks for the help.
