Code 43----Elec. Spark Timing.----Poor elec. connection, open or a short in the circuit; defective ESC module; defective knock sensor; defective ECM.
Don't *** -u-me that the knock sensor is good just cause you changed it recently. Actually a bad connection to the sensor could cause this code. The ESC is on or near the power brake booster. It reads the knock sensor and sends voltage (8-10 volts) to the ECM. If the ESC detects knock, it stops sending any voltage to the ECM. This causes the ECM to retard timing until the knock is gone. If the ESC is bad, then it won't send any voltage to the ECM at all, even if the knock sensor is good. This will cause the ECM to fully retard the EST and set a code 43. Then you get really bad performance and fuel economy. Plus possible engine damage.
All I can say is start with the cheapest solution first.

Oh I forgot. If the knock sensor is not hooked up, or not grounding to the ESC module, then the signal to the ECM will remain high, even if knock does occur. The ECM won't know it and will not retard the timing. This is what could cause the engine failure. This will also set a code 43.
