Motor Knocks When I Punch it

(Same sound like when I try to start off in 3rd when I think I'm in 1st),...
As long as I'm not really heavy on the pedal, sounds fine,....just when I really hit it.
Buddy of mine thinks it's the bearings rattlin' & if so, how much more time til I have to really worry about it?
It's my daily drive & I put 100 miles a day to & from work
('91 Formula, 305 TPI, 95k)

Thanks

Got Home Brew?</A>,....
If you can catch a quick race @ 5am on your way to work,....win or lose, it'll be a GREAT DAY, (better than coffee)

MB,

A few questions first:

What is the oil level and pressure?

What oil are you using?

Are you allowing a full warm-up before loading the engine heavily (full throttle)?

Does the noise vary with engine RPM or road speed (which one, or both)?

Do you have an engine crane?

Thanks Vadar;
Between add & full, (1/2 qt., 1-2 a week);
Been lazy w/Chevron;
Takes 5 min to get to on-ramp;
Neither, happens on a quick jump, (like idle-to-half throttle or, a cruise-to-3/4 throttle);
"engine crane"?

Thanks again,

Wounded Knee

BTW; if you see a black, clear-coat-peelin', Formula between Merced & Modesto & I'm NOT runnin' w/you, hopfully soon

i think you're engine is pinging... check the timing with the EST disconnected, it should be about 6 degrees BTDC if your motor is essentially stock..

Engine crane is a crane to pull the old engine out to replace it with a brand new one. We are saying maybe your engine is shot and you need a new one. Probebly not though.
