Engine: Hot Cam 355/TPI 305
Transmission: All 700r4's
Top Dead Center

OK getting ready to drop the Dist. in and set the timing. The balancer is on 0 and the #1 cyl has both valves closed #6 cyl. has bothe valves closed. Is this top dead center for the intake???

#6 exhaust should be closing and #6 intake should be just opening. #1 intake valve should have closed almost ½ of a crank revolution earlier.

Axle/Gears: 9" ME with 4.56 gears
Keep turning the engine over until you feal air pushing out of the #1 cylinder then bring it to top dead center. then you are at the #1 firing position.

OK I See but with both valves closed it would have to have air pushing out correct. I have no Idea but I will take any info you guys can give.

it would push air, yes, because the piston is rising on the compression stroke..

you know the 4 strokes, intake, compression, combustion, exhaust..

on compression stroke for that #1 cylinder the valves are closed, the exhaust will begin to open as soon as the piston begins downtravel in the cylinder

You could still drop the distributor in but remember that it's on TDC of #6 so the rotor needs to point to #6 plug wire.
