new fuel pump, recomendations?

well after replacing the battery, coil, and starter, my car wont start, before i replaced all that i checked the shrader valve to see if it has pressure, it squirted maybe an inch or two but not anything big, i didnt know what the norm was so i figured i had fuel pressure, well now there is no pressure, so im assuming its the fuel pump. im having my car towed to the local high school and they are going to diagnose it and repair it, all i have to do is pay for parts, i got really lucky.

so if its the fuel pump, i want a good one, i want something more performance based so when i do start building up the motor, the fuel pump wont be a problem.

anything i replace in the car i like to replace with something better than stock

so whats your recomendations on a fuel pump? i want something good, and performance based, and i know nothing about them, thanks.

also, i was told to get the high-pressure 255 lph pump off this site:
http://www.autoperformanceengineerin...ml/fpapps.html

so if my car was yours, and you loved it as much as me, what would you put in it?

If it were MY car, I'd first ascertain that the fuel pump was indeed the problem, and not a clogged filter, leaking pressure regulator, poor electrical connection at the tank, a failing oil pressure switch or pump relay, faulty wiring, or weak battery.

If I had to replave the pump, and planned to keep the 305 without adding a turbocharger, I'd go right back to GM and get a new Rochester/Delco pump. After installing nearly a half-dozen pumps in a '97 Sierra truck, the last one was an original AC/Delco that has lasted the longest of all of them (over two years now). I've had it with aftermarket pumps, except for possibly Walbro.

where is the oil pressure switch located? ive noticed at times while driving that my oil pressure gauge would be down real low but when i check my oil its fine, and would that cause the shrader valve to release no pressure? also, im pretty sure its not a weak battery or a bad connection at the pump because i can hear the pump priming up when i turn my key on, also i just replaced the battery this month, along with the coil.

The factory gauges on thirdgens should only be regarded as one step above idiot lights. They are not good quality and are often innacurate. Just the way it is

So, what you are saying is that the pump DOES run for at least the two-second prime cycle on initial power-up, correct?

If that's the case, you need to get a fuel pressure reading during that prime cycle. The fact that it does operate means that the relay is working, and wiring to the pump has at least not totally failed.

yes thats what im saying, when i turn the key on i hear the pump run for a good 2 seconds, i was told how to "hot wire" the pump so it runs untill i disconnect the two wires, i havent had a chance to try that yet, but i was told that if i can do that for about 5 minutes it might build enough pressure to start the car, but that doesnt really matter because my car is 20 something miles away from my house.

thank *** for auto shop class at the local high school

the schools maybe 3 miles away from my car, so tow straps wont be a problem, im pretty fortunate at least to have that going for me.

oh ***, and do i love core charges, i love bringing back a dead battery, and an old starter and getting 23 bucks for it, just makes my day so much better (you can tell im broke)

Hey Waax, i just posted a reply to your problem in a different thread. What you need to do is replace your oil pressure switch. It will be located directly above the oil filter. They are fairly cheap and easy to replace. That would be the first thing to try. If that doesn't help, let me know.
