"V" Belt Question
"V" Belt Question
I finally put in my new condensor for the A/C,new o-rings,flushed system, added oil, pulled a vac. no leaks...and charged with the last of my R12. The system runs great except for the fact that I am going through belts. The belts seem to be turning into a black powder that is getting all over my engine then after about 2 hours it gets thin and snaps. I thought I might have a pulley with a chip in it so I replaced the dampner pulley and water pump pulley and checked the a/c pulley, but I still have the problem.Well 3 belts later and lots of cursing and I am no closer to solving the problem. I have no problem with the power steering belt or alt.belt just the a/c. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yea its an 87T/A 305 TPI with v-belts

Sounds like your compressor may be bad...
Does it make any noise? If you turn the engine off, key on, and A/C on, what does it feel like turning it by hand?

Yes the compressor turns pretty easily by hand with the clutch engaged. What is going on now after I replaced the pulleys is that the belt "squeels" like crazy, I tighten the A/C to where it doesn't squeel under load then the alt. belt starts squeeling badly. I really am at a loss with this. It sucks that I have put over $200 into redoing the A/C and $50 in belts I can't get it to work properly.
