Underdrive pulley HP gain?

I just got a set of steel billet under drive pulleys for my 1992 Camaro RS. Realistically, what increase in power should I see? And are there any tips you guys have for operation? I do have a stereo system in the car and I heard things like setting the idle higher, etc., so the battery charges...

Thanks!

I don't really know a number of hp gain, but I put an airfoil, Hypertech II chip with fan switch and thermostat, K&N airfilter, and cut the screens out of my MAS sensor in all at the same time, then a year later, put a set of March pulleys on my car and niticed more of a seat of the pants difference with just the pulleys than with all the other things togeather. Now I know that everything works togeather to all help as one, but I am just telling you my experience with the pulleys is very positive for the money spent. For me it was one of the best bang-for-buck bolt-ons I did. Highly recommended, you definetly get a couple hp out of them, who knows, maybe 10-12 easy.

I think you will get mixed opinions on this. I was thinking about buying a set myself, but I'm not sure if they really are worth the money. They seem really popular with mustang drivers

With a slightly modded L98 I saw just under 2 tenths and 2mph. Same track, conditions, weather, 60ft etc. I've seen similar results in other cars. I couldn't deal with the lack of charging/dim lights etc. Some don't seem to have the charging problems I did.

if your conserned abotu charging problems you have 2 oprions, 1 get a high out altinator or 2 you could look at the pullies made by March. the Pwoer and amp series. it states in there catolog that it reduces accessory rpm's and raises the alternator rpms for poper charging. there a bit more expensive 2 piece 91.99 3 pice 171.99 ( in jegs) but there s an option for ya as well.

You will see some power but you will also be asking for a jumpstart way to often if you run a your stareo at all. I sold mine after two weeks. Unless you have a T-5 or T-56 convert. they idle high enough to handle the drain.

Mine can't keep up with the electronics on a good day so I am scared to put a set on my car. I don't think they would work right. I have seen a 2000 S-10 with a set but the battery wouldn't stay charged.

Personally I think they're an excellent addition to a manual tranny car. Most of them (as was said) idle high enough anyway, and some of us will probably need to keep the idle around 900-1000rpm anyway so it doesn't stall .

I'm not sure if I'd put them on an automatic car. Not enough control over the idle speed for me.

Well, is it possible for me to set my idle speed higher?

If I get a high-output alternator, a battery with 1000 cold cranking amps, and a 1 farad capacitor for my amplifier, do you think I'll be alright with the pulleys in?

The magazine I looked at showed dyno results of the same car/conditions with regular and performance pulleys. The results showed an increase about 10 HP/ft lbs TQ.

A capacitor would definitely take some of the stress off of an alternator...but you still have to worry about headlights, radiator fan, etc.
