hei help needed
all new ac/delco ignition parts, with by-pass wire off and base
timing set to 6 degrees as per the emisson sticker, car runs
smooth, put wire back on and clear fault, the thing starts
missing badly and timing goes way advanced, I am new
to these ecm controled ignitions. Anyone have any idea what
could be causing this?

Once the ESC is reconnected, the timing will generally advance anywhere between 10-20°. That's rather common. What isn't common is that the advance would cause misfire. If the knock sensor were faulty, the ESC may react by varying the advance wildly. It is also possible that the ESC has a connection problem or internal problem that is loading the HEI module and causing weak/undefined spark references.

the book says that I should be getting 7 to 9 volts steady out of
ESC until it senses a knock, then the ESC will take away the 9 volts to the ECM. I have a steady 9 volts all the time and here no knock. don't know if I am getting the 9 volts to the ECM, I'll
check that, any more ideas while I am out there. Its my boys
car, he got it right now, drives ok with that wire diconnected,
no Zip, but it gets him around till we figure this out. THanks for the help
