I may be picking up a SMC hood for 50 bucks, would the weight reduction be worth it over a stock steel hood?

how much do SMC hoods weigh?

I estimate stock steel hoods weigh about 60 lbs?

 

I dunno exactly what it weighs, but its VERY light. Its definitely worth it over a steel hood.

 

Yes i agree they are lighter than crap. It's about the lightest hood you can get.

ME 2, i'm gonna guess 18lbs without the solenoid or flappers.

 

If you are talking about the factory composite hood I can tell you it is almost twice as heavy as my unlimited fiberglass hood. I have had both of them on and off the car recently and even with the middle out I bet it is still 50lbs

Thats just a total guess i pulled out of my ***.

 

I just weighed the hoods, the factory composite hood with no hardware or insulation was at 42lbs the 2" cowl unlimited hood with 4 hold-downs installed is at 26lbs. Now both hoods don’t have centers so I would put the full factory composite hood at 48- 50lbs with the latch/spring and insulation

I hope you wont be as shocked at the total weight (you and the hood) as I was.......I was really hoping the hood was going to be like 70lbs but it turns out I am just that fat lol.
