Need help diagnosing engine stalling trouble.. Need some opinions

My buddy has a 91 Z with a 305 TPI thats been acting retarded lately. First problem: When engine is started, it starts up but dies right away. This happens mostly when the engine is cold. Problem two, when the car has to make a hard, sudden stop, he can bring the car to a halt, then the car inadvertly applies power, and luges forward, while he's holding the brake. Now lately the car has been dieing while hes driving. After cruising, when he lets up off the gas the car dies. What could be these problems be associated with? The car has TES Headers, new plugs, Taylor wires, and we just changed the fuel filter. The problem seems to temporarily go away when the IAC is unplugged and reset. Also these problems don't always happen of course, just more and more. Gimme some ideas guys...

Not too knowledgeable on TPI, but I'd check the MAF sensor for the stalling and Throttle position sensor for the surging.

No MAF on the '91.

Could be time to pull the TB off and take it apart and thouroughly clean it out with carb cleaner and a tooth brush, get all the passages as well as the TB bores.

If the IAC isn't bad, could be that the passages are just gummed up with time.

It could be the IAC, TPS, MAF, or maybe the computer. I just had a problem with mine stalling everytime I took my foot off the gas. It turned out to be that my ADS aftermarket chip went bad.
