just bought an 82, Z-28
just bought an 82 Z-28 and it needs a carb. for it to run, but when it had a carb on it I remeber when i started it it had shot flames out of the carb. I just wanted to know if anyone knew the cause of it?? It has a holly carb and a wieand intake manifold on it. It also has been sitting for quite a while now, maybe it is bad gas or something to that matter?? any help would be great. THANX!!!

Dan,
If the car has been unused for a while it's possible that the carburetor has dried out, the seals are no longer sealing, the float is sticking or the inlet needle/seat isn't sealing, and the fuel bowl empties into the intake as soon as the fuel pump starts moving fuel.
Get some fresh fuel to the carb. Get the engine running, and tap lightly on the carb air horn with a wood hammer handle. Sometimes a stuck float can be unstuck in this manner.
You can replace the carb or repair it. Repair is cheaper and you'll know exactly what you have when you're finished.
