wear time est?
wear time est?
From looking at these pictures can anyone give me an educated guess as to how many miles are on this engine. As you can see, it still has highly visable hone lines. There is rust on it because it's been sitting for over a year. These were taken from the bottom of the block.
Also I was wondering if this wear pattern for the main bearing is a bad thing. I am replacing them, but is this normal?

Does it matter how many miles it has? I mean wear is wear, and the amount depends upon several factors, so the mileage is quite inconsequential.
yea it would be nice to have a bore gauge, bvut I dont and that's why I ask. I can't even feel the step in the ridge. How about the bearing? Is that normal? BTW, that specked stuff on the cylinders is lint from the air if you couldn't have guessed...

Actually, not having a big ridge at the top of the cylinder DOES tell you that wear is probably minimal. Ask any machine shop professional, and they'll tell you the same thing.
That being said, should you still measure everything? - yep
If it's been sitting for awhile and there's rust, it probably wouldn't hurt to have the block hot tanked too, but you'll need new cam bearings. Take the crank in and have them look over the journal that bearing was riding on too.
And I agree with the above - miles really don't matter as much as the overall condition of the block.
