Okay under my car, i was checking out my catalyst for fun. I noticed there was a healthy spray of black crud, most likely oil, on the bottom of the pan. I checked the oil and its still full. The pressure is normal. My engine doesn't burn oil. Should I be concerned about this?

is the oil fairly recent?

is it only on the bottom of the oil pan?

is it all over theplace?

might just be crap from the road..

Im due for an oil change in 2 weeks. The oil is black and dirty outside the pan, from grime i guess. But the oil in my engine is nice and clean still.

It might not even be oil outside. You're right, it could just be dead animal guts

well..

remember that oil collects dirt like a magnet..

try it, put some oil outside, like a few drops about the size of a quarter.. come back in a few days, it'll be almost completely muddy dirt..

you need to figure out if it's new oil (ie. runny and soft) or old oil (caked and gritty)
